Understanding music licensing and reporting on Lounges
Yes you can!
Lounges is a platform that prioritises fairness and equality for creators. This principle extends to music rights, where we are fully registered with the Performing Rights Society (PRS) to ensure that the owners' rights are always protected during your performance.
When it comes to music licensing, we've got some important details to share. Here's what you need to know:
1. Reporting Licensed Songs: While we help creators by reporting licensed songs, it's crucial for creators to inform us about the use of licensed songs. Entities like PRS for Music represent songwriters, composers, and music publishers, ensuring they receive royalties when their music is performed publicly.
2. Reporting PRS Licensed Songs: If you're using PRS licensed songs in your content, it's your responsibility to report it within 24 hours of the performance. Simply provide a list of the songs you've performed. You can do this through our convenient set list builder on the platform:
- For Video on-demand when uploading a video
- For Live Streams after your stream ends
- You can also access this form via your dashboard under event details
3. Licensing Fees: We deduct 15% from the Gross Revenue for using licensed music in both live and on-demand content.
4. PRS Back Claims: If your own 100% controlled work (e.g. a song) is PRS registered, you may be eligible for back claims with PRS. Visit the PRS web platform members portal for more information. Please note that Lounges accepts no responsibility for any back claims.
5. Granting Perpetual Rights: If you're not registered for PRS or a similar society, you grant us perpetual rights for the music you perform on Lounges. This means we can keep it available and viewable on our platform for as long as your content is active. You also waive any rights regarding subsequent licenses you may grant to third parties, including PRS or similar collection societies. Additionally, you agree to indemnify Lounges.tv if we become liable for any license fees.
6. Opting Out of Music Licensing Deductions: By opting out of music licensing deductions, you confirm either of the following:
i) You're not performing any content that requires PRS licensing.
ii) You've made your own lawful licensing arrangements.
Understanding these guidelines will help you navigate music licensing on Lounges smoothly and avoid any copyright issues.
7. I am a DJ can I perform on Lounges?
Currently, our licensing coverage doesn't extend to songs for DJs. However, we're hopeful that this is something we can address in the future. Our aim is to continuously enhance our services to better meet the needs of our users.
8. Music Licensing for US territory
Stay tuned for updates, and we appreciate your understanding as we work towards making our platform even better for everyone.
